BACKGROUND OF THE ORGANIZATION

Social and Economic Aid for the Disabled (SEAD) is a non government, non partisan and non-profit making organization. SEAD was established in 2012 as a disability pressure group and registered as a national organization in 2012, with a registration No. 00NGO/00005247.

In 2012 a group of six people with disabilities living in Tabora Region met to discuss the living condition of the disabled in the Country.  The group observed the following:

  • The people with disabilities in Tanzania are very often forgotten in many socio-economic development programmers. They lead a very low quality life plagued with poverty, disease and ignorance.
  • However, according to the Universal Human Rights Declaration and the Tanzanian Constitution they have a right to a good quality life and social security.  They have a right to, among others,  access to education, information and access to all other social and economic services provided in a country

Having observed these conditions the group decided to form the organization known as Social and Economic Aid of the Disabled (SEAD).

.
